Canon SX20

Just as I thought I'd be settling for the Panasonic Lumix FZ38, due out next month, along comes Canon with a new model that has my mouth watering. Originally I'd rejected the two Canon superzooms, the SX1 and the SX10. The former because, although armed with a new CMOS sensor, it was really very pricey. $600 at launch. The latter because it's video did not shoot HD widescreen.

The SX20 replaces the SX10, and my one gripe with it is resolved. It still has that huge 20x zoom lens starting at 28mm, and a 12mp sensor. It's a very tempting package. I'm waiting for the first reviews, but till then you can read this.

Satellite TV

The summer months are rolling by, and fall will soon be upon us. Followed all to quickly by winter. The weather may deteriorate, but the big plus is that this is when television entertainment really takes off. The road to the Super Bowl will soon begin and all the big shows start, or return, to the small screen. Well, traditionally we refer to the television as the small screen, but these days an awful lot of people have giant HD LCD or plasma sets capable of reproducing the most incredible sound and vision.

But are you getting the content that your television deserves, and that will keep you entertained through till next summer? Theres an incredible choice of packages and Satellite TV Providers these days and it can be tough working out which deal is best for you. Perhaps you are interested in getting HDTV from DIRECTV

Well if you're confused by all these options, head on over to Kaptain Satellite, a fabulous online resource that shows you what you can get, for how much, any promotions and everything else you could possibly need to know!

Provisions Aplenty

From my Corn Age set on Flickr.

Olden Days In Mexico City

I've just added a few more snaps to my Once Upon A Time set on Flickr. This time using the excellent Filters Unlimited plugin for Photoshop, with their Photo Aging Kit.

Panasonic's New MFT GF1

A few years ago Panasonic and Olympus agreed to work together to introduce a new type of camera, the Micro Four Thirds. It would offer a big sensor, interchangeable lenses and top image quality in a compact package.

Panasonic beat Olympus to market by quite a bit with the G1. But it wasn't really that small. not as small as the tech promised. Olympus' EP-1, now on shelves, is a gorgeous retro camera, and did come in a smaller factor.

Panasonic will surely release their own genuinely compact MFT. Is the photo below, of a GF1 model, the camera in question? We'll have to wait and see.

Nikon Projector Camera

Here's a short vid showing off the merits of Nikon's new projector cam.

Renegade Photography

It's an unfortunate fact that many museums and estates forbid photography. Unfortunate, because their content is usually so very photographable. But such is life. Yesterday I went to the San Ildefonso museum in Mexico City, which does sometimes allow photography of exhibitions. Not this time however.

The exhibition was of missionary art and sculptures, with some terrific items. The temptation was strong...several rooms had no one else about to witness a little illicit snapping. I took out my camera, held it at waist level and discreetly pulled the trigger.

But I am essentially a rule keeper, not a rule breaker. So that was it. My sole contribution to the art of Renegade Photography as it has become known. Is there anyone out there who routinely embarks on renegade missions? Ever get caught?

Los Chavos

The latest in my 365 project. The vote for photo of the month is currently running, so please go and cast your vote!

Nikon S1000pj / VP650

This is a very cool looking camera. Nikon are rumoured to be releasing this is September with a near $600 price tag. It's a standard 12mp compact in many ways, but it has one extremely unique built in feature - a projector. You can show off your snaps in 40" glory on a wall.
