Canon SX20

Just as I thought I'd be settling for the Panasonic Lumix FZ38, due out next month, along comes Canon with a new model that has my mouth watering. Originally I'd rejected the two Canon superzooms, the SX1 and the SX10. The former because, although armed with a new CMOS sensor, it was really very pricey. $600 at launch. The latter because it's video did not shoot HD widescreen.

The SX20 replaces the SX10, and my one gripe with it is resolved. It still has that huge 20x zoom lens starting at 28mm, and a 12mp sensor. It's a very tempting package. I'm waiting for the first reviews, but till then you can read this.
